In a room I usually don't have to go in, I heard two sixth-grade teachers say, "Those kids will sure get it when the 7th grade teachers get ahold of them!" I know some days are challenging, but I don't want the kids to graduate up. I wish we had looping, sometimes, so that I could work with the same bunch more than one year. We might get to know each other well enough to find ways to make all the kids successful.
I heard another teacher saying about her pre-schoolers, "I am not ready for a new bunch. I just now feel like they are prepared." How wonderful.
First thing, every class, I have my students do a quick assignment at the bell. We have about 20 of these left, so I'm trying to make them count. Today I had them match 5 punctuation symbols to their names. Tomorrow I am throwing a math problem in there just to mess with them! Haha!
